THE recent application placed before Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council to build a McDonalds Restaurant on Macon Way has caused great alarm and discomfort to residents and businesses adjacent to the site.
Serious concerns have been raised as to how the development would affect nearby residents as well as the Special Needs centre adjacent to the site.
Experience with similar sized McDonalds have shown that there have been cases of vandalism and damage to adjacent properties with parties and music playing to the early hours of the morning not a prospect to be relished by the many elderly residents who live nearby.
Even now Macon Way often suffers serious congestion and delay with traffic on the roundabouts at either end often grinding to a standstill.
There is now a prospect of many hundreds of cars being attracted into the area and with only 32 car parking spaces to be made available the only place for excess traffic to park will be on Macon Way itself which will lead to greater congestion.
At the planning meeting to be held on August 17 councillors should take note of the hundreds of signatures and of over 100 individual letters of objections sent opposing this planning application and firmly reject the proposal on the grounds of traffic congestion, safety and inappropriate development.
The Council's Planning Committee has indicated that it must take into account the views of local residents and with such a vociferous and united opposition against this development then the council will ignore such strong feelings at its peril.
