EXCELLENT batting from Weston CC gave them the advantage over their mid-table counterparts Hanford, at home, on Saturday.

With regular openers missing, skipper Adie Crowe and in-form Iain Allcock took the crease and didn't disappoint.

A superb 93 was added before Crowe was finally removed for a solid 35.

Enter Billy Strong (48no) who formed a faultess unbeaten partnership of 123 with century-maker Alcock (121no) to take Weston to a declaration on 216 for 1 with five overs remaining.

In reply, Handford reached 53 for 2 but a mini-collapse of 3 further wickets left them reeling and well adrift of the target.

Rain interruptions played into their favour but in the end a draw was always inevitable as the visitors closed on 173 for 7.

Lello was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3 for 55.

Weston take 10 points, Hanford 6.
