A TRADITIONAL family seaside holiday, complete with pier and donkeys on the beach, is on offer in 'Warrington-by-the-Sea'.

The town centre is to be partly transformed into a beach resort from August 23 to September 3.

Warrington Now, the market, Golden Square and the borough council are behind the project, which will see the old Fish Market and the area around it featuring a pier and a coastline.

There will be sand, deck chairs, 'end of pier' entertainment, Warrington rock, fun fair rides, a Punch and Judy show a 'sea' and paddling area, brass bands, talent shows and other attractions. The 'seaside' indoor market will have bouncy castles and other entertainment.

There are even 'seaside' postcards which the public can send to their friends.

"We want to create summer magic for Warrington, some end of summer fun before the children go back to school," said the council's marketing development officer, Leo Kolassa, who has helped to pull the project together.

"It's all tongue in cheek. It's something different and it will draw visitors. We hope people will send out the postcards and invite their friends to come to Warrington," he added.
