CHART toppers Radiohead will rock Victoria Park for three nights in October after councillors granted a site licence for the event this week.

Despite opposition from nearby residents, council chiefs agreed to an outdoor entertainment licence in July and a site licence was awarded to organisers at a special meeting on Monday night.

Now SJM Promotions - which organised the V96 festival, attracting more than 30,000 revellers to Warrington - has to satisfy the council that it can provide adequate parking for the event.

Clr Hans Mundry, deputy chairman of the community services committee, who voted for the proposals, said: "I don't think it's my kind of music but it is a coup for the town. It's a lot of prestige for a major group like this to come here."

Police are able to cover the event and fire chiefs have already approved safety measures put in place by promoters.

The shows are expected to bring 30,000 people to the town over the three nights.
