N'RTHWICH firm Walkers Coaches has this week announced that it has been bought out by Lancashire-based operator Holmeswood Coaches Ltd.

Holmeswood is run by the Aspinall family, who say they will continue to run Walkers Coaches in the same spirit as the previous owners, George and Vicki Walker.

The Walkers are retiring at the ages of 62 and 61 respectively.

They have been running the business since 1964 and signed the business over on June 14, but Mrs Walker is totally confident that Holmeswood will be ideal successors.

She said: They are a wonderful family and they have the same aspirations for the business as we have always had. They are going to stay here in the yard and they do not envisage leaving Mid-Cheshire.

However, Mrs Walker is ensuring a smooth transfer of the business by helping out in a consultation role during this initial transition period.

There are no job losses as a result of the takeover and the Holmeswood fleet will now consist of more than 100 coaches, after the addition of Walkers 22 vehicles, making them one of the largest operators in the North West.
