STEVE Crawford made a sensational 68 in a total of just 87 as depleted Barnton crashed to Woodford.

Refreshed from a holiday in the Crete sunshine, he batted watchfully as wickets fell regularly at the other end, then cut loose to take 29 off the final two overs before being last out.

With the wicket drying all the time, Woodford's openers batted sensibly as Dharmesh Manubhai and Nigel Hart toiled in vain.

A late flurry from Dave 'llier (4-12) put a slightly better complexion on the result.

For the second week running, Barnton 2nds featured a posse of youngsters for their visit to league leaders Woodford, who posted maximum batting points with 171-5, leaving Barnton with 41 overs to bat.

At 47-5 and only the youngsters left batting, things looked bleak, but the lads mounted a magnificent rearguard action to bat out the remaining 24 overs. James 'llier followed up taking his first senior wicket by joint top-scoring with 17.

This draw keeps Barnton's own title hopes alive, but they need to get back on the winning track this week against Disley.
