THE Conference experience of Neil Ellis, Lee Poland and Steve Walsh proved invaluable for Vics Reserves as they won their opening Lancashire League game of the season.
New trialist Wayne McDermott hit the bar before another new face, former Crewe reserve player Gary Lunt, grabbed the only goal.
He pounced in the 16th minute when he latched on to Ellis through ball to chip over the advancing Bay keeper Alex Hill.
Poland could have added more, hitting the upright and also being denied by the impressive Hill.
Colwyn Bay, playing their first game in this league, put Vics on the back foot for a spell, but never seriously threatened to beat Paul Williams.
Poland was again foiled by a good save from Hill and Ian Carthy should have done better when he made good ground into the box, but handled the ball before shooting.
Vics: Williams, Royle, McDermott, Birdsey, Walsh, Boothby, Houghton, Carthy, Lunt, Poland, Ellis. Subs used: Hammon, Taylor.
