Seddon Homes - blocked from building by councillors in April - have submitted revised proposals for the site in Northwich Road.

But this week neighbours claimed nothing had changed.

"The way the houses are going to be built will mean the owners will be able to stare right into our bedroom," said pensioner Charles Kinder, of Warren Avenue.

Seddon's earlier plans for the site were refused because planners thought the homes would cost too much.

They were also concerned about the possibility of 30 homes being built on the site.

Seddon's have now reduced the number to 26.

But residents said that was not enough.

"They are out to make as much money as they can," said Charles' wife Isabel.

"I have seen historical buildings like that in other towns and they have been made into luxury flats so why can't they do that here."

On Monday architect Ken Bruce said it was unlikely there would be any dramatic changes to his designs.

Since April he has met Macclesfield Borough Council officers to work out the best scheme.

"This would be good for neighbours because it would give them security at the back of their homes," said Mr Bruce, of Northwich-based TFA Architects

But this week Mrs Kinder said she planned to lobby Tatton MP Martin Bell and town planners.

The scheme is due to be discussed next month. The deadline for objections is September 13.
