A 90-YEAR-OLD woman was violently attacked in her own home - in a cowardly robbery, Runcorn police disclosed this week.

The elderly woman was grabbed by a man after answering a knock at her door in Lodge Lane, Halton Village.

He threw her back into the house and demanded money.

The robber then fled with cash, leaving the woman, shaken but not injured.

He was seen running towards the village, along Main Street. A man gave chase but was unable to catch him.

Det Con Rob Grantham, who is leading the investigation, this week appealed to the public for help.

The attacker was a white male with a Mediterranean complexion, aged 20, 5ft tall, of slim build, with short dark brown hair. He was wearing a round neck navy blue short sleeved T-shirt and light blue denim jeans.

Det Con Grantham said: "This was a violent cowardly attack on an elderly woman.

"When she opened the door, he got a grip of her, threw her back into the house and demanded money.

"I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in this area."

The attack happened at 6pm on Sunday, July 30.

This robbery follows several incidents in the same area and detectives suspect the same man may be responsible.

An elderly woman was mugged as she walked along a footpath to Halton Lea a few weeks ago. A man crept up behind her and snatched her handbag.

Anyone with information is asked to phone Dc Rob Grantham on 01244-613933 or call Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800-555 111.
