CONGLETON Town were outplayed on Monday night as they went down 4-1 at Ashton.

The Bears were blitzed by four goals in the space of 13 minutes, and it could have been eight apart from the heroics of keeper Micky Allison.

Ashton took the lead on 36 minutes with a tap in from six yards, and Allison allowed a corner to slip through his hands for the second.

The Ashton centre forward ran clear to drill home a shot for a 3-0 half-time lead, and a shot from the edge of the area made it 4-0.

Peter Weston scored a consolation goal for Congleton on 53 minutes, and Allison denied Ashton four times in one on ones in the last half an hour.

The defeat followed a 2-1 victory for the Bears on Saturday at home to Ossett Town.

Rod Thornley put Congleton ahead after just 25 seconds when he nipped in between the keeper and a defender to score.

Ossett made it 1-1 on 57 minutes with a mishit shot from 10 yards, and Andy Park scored the winner with five minutes to go with a 12-yard drive.

Congleton are at home to Guiseley tomorrow and Farsley Celtic on Monday, both starting at 3pm.
