ADVENTUROUS Jo Bromley is to spend two years training school teachers in one of the world's poorest countries.

Jo, aged 29, from Biddulph, is the education officer at the Welsh National Opera.

She will be leaving her post next month to jet off to the West African country of Ghana to begin work for Voluntary Service Overseas.

Jo will be based in the remote village of Pusiga in the north east of the country, where she will train primary school English teachers at the Gbewwa Teacher Training College.

She will also be responsible for setting up a demonstration school within the college.

"It's a challenging job description in a tough environment," said Jo, who has worked in education for seven years.

"I always wanted to work for VSO, and was going to apply when I graduated but felt I didn't have enough experience.

"Now the time seems right - I have skills to offer, and don't have a husband or kids to think about."

VSO is an international development charity which works through volunteers.

It uses the skills and experience of its volunteers to help tackle poverty in 74 of the world's poorest countries.

Volunteers are aged between 21 and 68, and work overseas for two years on a local salary. For more details ring 020 8780 7500.
