CHILDREN are being invited to bring their buckets and spades to a one-day only seaside resort.

Candy floss, ice cream and tons of sand are set to transform the village green at Scholar Green for a charity family fun day.

The community is being dubbed Scholar Green By The Sea for Sunday's fund-raiser, being organised by Kim and Sue Chan.

The Chans run the chip shop and Chinese takeaway in Drenfell Road, and the fun day is in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Eight tons of sand are being delivered for a special beach, and there will be a balloon race, magician, quad bikes, traction engine, fairground organ and a Chinese and English barbecue.

"This is the first community event in the village for many years, and we're hoping many people will come along to enjoy the day," said Mrs Chan.

"We are aiming to create a seaside feel, with a sandy beach, candy floss and ice cream, and we're asking children to bring their buckets and spades.

"We decided to raise money for Macmillan because everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer.

"An elderly neighbour of ours has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and a young woman from the village died this year from the disease."

The fun starts at midday.
