CHARITY volunteer Neil Taylor will be trying out his sea legs next month as part of a ship's crew.

Neil, from Congleton, is due to take part in the second voyage of the Tenacious, a tall ship owned by the Jubilee Sailing Trust.

The trust organises expeditions for young people from all walks of life, and the Tenacious is set to up anchor from Dartmouth.

The six-day voyage will take the young crew down the English Channel and up into the Bristol Channel before arriving at Cardiff.

Neil, aged 23, has been a volunteer for five months for VISYON, a Congleton-based charity which helps young people suffering from stress.

His involvement in the group began after he took advantage of the services it offers.

"I'm looking forward to the trip, which is going to be something very different," said Neil.

The expedition was laid on by VISYON and the Rotary Club of Congleton Dane, with the help of Andrew Sykes Pumps, which sponsored the trip.

The Jubilee Sailing Trust is one of Rotary International's chosen charities this year, and Len McGarry, Congleton Dane's community chairman, was instrumental in making the trip happen.

"People accepted for the trust's two ships become members of the crew, and Neil is a very capable lad," he said.
