NANTWICH Town kicked off the new season with a solid point against Flixton at Jackson Avenue, on Saturday.
With six teenagers in their side tasting their first action in Division One of the North West Counties League, a goalless stalemate is a notable achievement and it could have been better.
Manager Dave Cooke said: "We were the better side, we just couldn't finish.
"We had about nine chances to their two or three but I was pleased with the performance considering we had six teenagers in the side.
"Gareth Chadwick was probably the pick of our players at centre-half but they all did well."
Cooke was also happy with the forward duo of John Dawson and Joe Walker in their first league game together.
"Both had good chances. Joe had a point-blank range header well saved and John made a couple of chances."
Nantwich travel to Rossendale on Saturday, and entertain Woodly Sports on Bank Holiday Monday, KO 3pm.
