PLANNING councillors are to visit the proposed site for a controversial drive-through restaurant in Crewe.

The plans for the site at Macon Way were up before the Crewe and Nantwich Planning Committee last Thursday.

A packed gallery forced councillors to bring the matter forward to the start of the meeting when it was, without discussion, moved for a site visit.

Councillors will now visit the site on Friday, September 8, to assess the application and a decision will then be made at the next meeting of the committee.

Opposition has come mainly from residents living off the site and also the Cheshire Sports Academy which backs onto it.

"A number of conditions have already been recommended on this application," said Cllr Chris Thorley, chair of the committee.

"These include providing a pedestrian crossing on Macon Way, limiting the hours of use from 7am to 11pm, the provision of litter bins and suitable landscaping," he added.

"A visit to the site will help us to ensure that these conditions meet the needs of residents in the vicinity and that the development will not compromise these needs," he added.
