TWO young people from Winsford are celebrating after winning sponsorship from the borough council to help them live their dream.

Rob Oakes and Sadie Brandon have each been awarded £100 from the council's Gold Star Sponsorship Fund, designed to help young people prepare for, or participate in, prestigious events.

Rob, of Beeston Drive, put the money toward a trip to South Africa. He visited Soweta with nine other drama students to present a piece of drama using African language, dance and music.

The show was performed over a two week period in front of 6,000 people and a group from Soweta paid a return visit to Cheshire to perform a special show for schools.

Sadie, 18, of Moss Bank, used the money to boost her funds to be part of the UK contingent to Mexico Moot 2000 - the 11th World Scout Moot.

She spent her time in Mexico helping to build a playground for children in a mountain village and working on a road building project.

Helsby girl Laura Robinson was also a winner for her teaching post in Kenya.

Leader of the council, Clr Bob Mather, said: "It never ceases to amaze me that we have so many young people in Vale Royal giving so much time and effort to take part in such worthy programmes."
