ADAM Parkinson cured Winnington Park's injury problems with a stunning individual display to keep up their promotion hopes, beating fellow contenders Warrington at the Rec on Saturday.

Winnington received an early setback with the news that Daniel Leech had the flu and was unable to play. Tom Allen was playing with a badly bruised hand, and Adam Parkinson and Simon Newell both had hamstring troubles.

Winning the toss, Winnington elected to field on a wicket that probably won't be bettered in any league this season, and Warrington got off to an excellent start through Malcolm Agar and James Hughes.

Then in the ninth over, Park's injury crisis got even worse with in-form Mike Johns being forced to leave the field with a slipped disc, having bowled only one ball.

This left Stuart Hayes with fewer bowling options and Warrington took advantage, racing to 181-1 in 41 overs, and were well positioned to post a large total.

It took Aussie Adam Parkinson (5-59) and James Cowell (3-42) to restrict Warrington to 213-9 in their 50 overs.

Park were confident of reaching their target.

The early loss of James Lewis brought Parkinson and Chris Leech together, who took on the bowlers to ensure that Winnington were always ahead of the run rate.

Parkinson completed a magnificent century to add to his five wickets, finishing on 121 not out. Leech scored a forceful 72 in the 160-run second wicket stand as Winnington completed the task with nine overs remaining.

This extends their winning streak to six, and they remain second behind Congleton, who they visit on Saturday (1pm).

Winnington will be without captain Stuart Hayes and await late fitness tests on five other key players.

Winnington Park 2nd XI visited Poynton and got off to a great start on a poor wicket.

Ian Johns and David Leech put on 152 for the first wicket with Johns scoring 74 and Leech 68. This stand set up a respectable score of 200 in 48 overs.

Winnington were rewarded for their efforts by picking up seven wickets and 16 points from the drawn game. Steve Johnson bowled brilliantly (5-41), while 15-year-old Paul Allen picked up 2-36 in a fiery opening spell.

Winnington are at home on Saturday against Alderley Edge (1pm start).

The 3rd XI visited Alderley Edge on Sunday in the league. Winnington batted first and scored 223-4 off 50 overs.

Eoin Welch made a tremendous 110 not out and was well supported by Brotherton, Hayes, Neil Welch and Phillip Amatiello.

The rain spoiled a potentially good game, and with the overs reduced to 33 in the second innings, Alderley finished on 133-5.

Brian Shingler (2-25) and Greg McKeown (2-22) were the pick of the bowlers for Park as they finished with 15 points.

Winnington host Heaton Mersey on Sunday (1pm).
