A TRAFFIC calming scheme could be winging its way to Orford - and residents will play an important part in giving it the green light.

Plans are being drawn up for a calming scheme to cover the area bounded by Orford Lane, Marsh House Lane, Battersby Lane and Lythgoes Lane.

Borough council traffic officers held two public exhibitions at the Irish Democratic Club, Orford Lane, to discuss the types of measures that can be used to solve highway problems in the area.

As a result of those discussions, the officers are now busy drawing up a traffic calming scheme.

Accident investigating officer Mark Tune said: "We brought blank plans to the exhibitions to show residents what we can do to get a general feeling of what they want.

"Although there were no hard and fast indications, the general view was in favour of a road calming scheme.

"Over the next fortnight we will be drawing up plans for such a scheme and will put it to residents through a letter-drop and questionnaire to get a clear indication of whether or not it's what they want."

Howard Claxton, traffic management and safety manager for the council, said: "The views of residents in this area of Orford are very important and will be taken on board and used to develop a scheme that the people want."
