A HOUSEHOLDER is trying to solve a late mail mystery in her postal district.

Cecile Marchant, of Littlecoat Gardens, Pewterspear Green, claims residents in WA4 have been afflicted by a host of postal problems.

She said: "Over the last three years there's been lots of mail going astray in Warrington south. About 12 months ago we got a new postman and he was really good. But over the last couple of weeks, first class mail has been taking nearly a week and subscription magazines nearly two weeks to come through."

Mrs Marchant says her own postman told her there was a backlog in the area.

She added: "One morning I saw a young lad in normal clothing wandering around aimlessly and I thought he was delivering junk mail. I asked him why he wasn't in Royal Mail uniform and he said he normally worked in the office and they'd just dropped him off.

"He was trying his best but he didn't know the area - there's something wrong if they're pulling people out of the office."

But a spokesman for Royal Mail said there was no operational reason to suggest that there was any general difficulty in WA4.

She said: "There is no backlog of mail - it is being delivered each day in the normal way at the earliest opportunity. We do employ some casual staff to help us at peak times and we do not issue them with a uniform, but they are appropriately trained."
