WARRINGTONIANS are being asked to sign up for a new army for peace - the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Trust volunteer network.

Led by fundraising officer Carole Williams, the Trust is setting up a database of people with any time or talents to give, to be called upon when the peace centre is fully operational in November.

"We want people to feel part of their peace centre and get involved in our work," said Carole.

"It will be a combination of community and Trust working together to help peace."

The 'Friends of the Trust' will assist in organising, running and supporting events, being called upon when needed.

Duties could be promoting the goals of the Trust or helping in the office, to selling Beanies or collecting money on flag days.

"We are looking for anyone with time to give, we have a lot of forthcoming events."

Carole says she is hoping for a big response and eventually wants to develop satellite volunteer groups in different areas of Warrington to get together and organise their own fundraising events.

The aim of the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Trust, set up by Colin and Wendy Parry whose son died in the Bridge Street bombing seven years ago, is to advance friendship, education and understanding of young people, building peace and goodwill.

The peace centre aims to ensure that young people can get together in a safe environment to learn about conflict and reconciliation.

Those interested in joining the volunteer network will be sent a brief questionnaire to be kept on file so that that Trust knows what qualities people have and their areas of interest.

Carole, who has just completed her first week as fundraising officer, is hoping that, like herself, people will find working with the Trust inspirational and will look forward to working for the benefit of young people.
