A NURSE who slept on the job and unsafely administered medicines has been struck off after being found guilty of professional misconduct.

William Ross, aged 60, of Warrington, was found guilty of eight offences which took place in August and September last year while he was employed as a registered general nurse at Prince Alfred Nursing Home in Wavertree, Liverpool.

Mr Ross was found guilty of three charges of absenting himself from duty, including two charges of sleeping on duty, four charges of unsafe practice in the administration of medicines and one charge of verbally abusing a colleague in the presence of a patient.

The Professional Conduct Committee of the UK Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting (UKCC) removed Mr Ross from the professional register, meaning he can no longer work as a registered nurse.

UKCC director Liz McAnulty said: "The public rightly expects the UKCC to take a firm line against registered nurses such as Mr Ross who place patients at risk through their unsafe and poor quality practice."
