Widnes Albion Bulls 16

GB & Ireland Students 26

THE ALBION had an excellent pre-season work-out against a team due to tour America in three weeks.

The students had beaten a Lancashire select side so it was no easy ride for the Bulls.

Plenty of the visitors also had experience at Academy level for 'pro' clubs.

The Bulls took the lead with a try by Gary Richardson with some good support work and Dan Connolly landed the conversion before the students landed three tries, one a bit doubtful and a conversion for a 6-14 scoreline at the interval.

The Bulls hit back when prop Paul Davies took a pass wide out to cross.

Both sides then swapped scores with centre Andy Benson powering over, Connolly converting only for the students to do the same at the other end at 16-20 with three minutes to go it was anyone's game but the students benefited from a loose ball to score a converted try.

A good game for a pre-season affair, the Albion suffering slightly for using 26 players which did not help the continuity of their play but should hold them in good stead for their first game against Wigan St Patricks, kick-off 2.30pm at Leigh Rec while the A team visit Latchford.
