Vauxhall 4 Mond Rangers 1

A STUART Hide goal was all Mond had to show for their visit to high flying Vauxhalls.

Terry Noon had an early opening, then Kevin Ward tested the home keeper. Gary Washington was causing problems to the Mond defence, his experience becoming a telling factor as half time approached.

The early second half strikes were partly cancelled out when Stuart Hide headed in at the far post. Martin Gill was in tremendous form and kept Mond in with a chance until two late goals settled the game.

Stuart Hide was man of the match for Mond.

In midweek Mond went down 3-1 to Helsby.

Ex-Helsby player Kevin Ward gave Mond a second minute lead after lobbing keeper Phil Noon, but Kevin Leach headed home an equaliser from a Mark Steggles corner kick.

Late in the second half Helsby took the lead through a Mike Smith header after a cross from Steggles and then Peter Crane headed home following a Bernard Canon free kick to give Helsby a deserved victory.Man-of-the-match for Mond was Neil Smale.

Mond Rangers Res 5 Willaston 0

MOND took charge of this encounter from the outset but it took 25 minutes and a super strike from Andy Gott to break the deadlock.

This was the start of a 10 minute spell which produced four goals and effectively won the game.

Gott added a second two minutes later - his seventh goal in only three games.

Simon Worthington was put through by Andy Kent and scored from an acute angle.

Gott then chipped the keeper after good work by Mark Dunbill, making his comeback after injury problems last year.

After the interval Willaston produced their best spell but Kent and Billy Burke were in superb form at the heart of the Mond defence.

Kevin Morris completed the scoring after 75 minutes with a glorious chip over the keeper from 25 yards.

I n midweek Mond travelled to local rivals Helsby Reserves and were in outstanding form coming away with a 4-0 win, goals from Andy Gott (2), Paul Dryer and Carl Grear.
