SIX enterprising teenagers have scooped more than £12,000 to set up new youth clubs in Runcorn.

The youngsters are keen to create exciting opportunities for young people aged 11-13-years-old. The group - called M Power Team - has been awarded a grant from the Prince's Trust 'M' Power Millennium awards to undertake a special youth project.

Jacqui Jones of Halton Council's youth services team, said: "In order to create the youth clubs successfully, we need more adult volunteers to help us increase the number of people to assist in the running of the clubs.

"We'd love to hear from anyone interested in helping the teenagers achieve their ambition of opening a youth club."

The team, members of Runcorn Boys Club and Dukesfield Youth Club, plan to create a club with a safe environment.

They are anxious to curb vandalism and reduce crime.

A series of weekend residential training sessions organised with help from Halton Council's youth services divisiion will help the young people to set up their own club in the autumn.

Anyone wishing to offer help can phone Jacqui Jones on 01928-567355.
