TITLE-CHASING Alsager 2nds are still in second place despite a defeat and draw in the space of three days.

Alsager opened on Saturday at fellow title hopefuls Alderley Edge with 130 all out, Paul Adams and Andy Barber joint top scorers with 32.

Alderley Edge replied with 131 for seven, Barber Alsager's top bowler with three for 36.

Alsager opened at home to Heaton Mersey on Monday with 189 for six after 50 overs, Geoff Andrews top scoring with 40 not out.

David Talbot scored 38, ahead of 32 from Richard Bason.

Heaton never tried to go for the runs, and were 98 for eight in reply after their 50 overs.

Alan Stancliffe took four for 36, and Alsager claimed eight and 12 points respectively from the matches to remain behind leaders Grappenhall.

Alsager 1st X1 remain second from bottom after Saturday's home game against Oxton was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

They are 29 points adrift of Hyde, with three games left, the next at home to Nantwich tomorrow, while the 2nds travel to Birkenhead Park.
