CONGLETON Town enjoyed mixed Bank Holiday fortunes, winning and losing by the same score at home within three days.

The Bears beat Guiseley 3-1 on Saturday in the league, before going down 3-1 to Farsley Celtic on Monday.

Graham Dodd put Congleton ahead against Guiseley on 12 minutes from the penalty spot after being brought down.

Rod Thornley made it 2-0 in the 26th minute when he ran through to score from 12 yards out, and hit his second 23 minutes from the end.

The Guiseley keeper blocked his first effort, only for Thornley to fire home from 15 yards at the second attempt.

Guiseley scored a consolation goal in the last minute when an unmarked player latched onto a corner.

Congleton defended poorly on Monday as Farsley scored three headed goals.

A Farsley player was allowed a free header from a cross to open the scoring on eight minutes, and Peter Weston slotted the ball home to make it 1-1 just before the break.

Farsley took the lead on 62 minutes from a header at the near post, and made the game safe from another free header on 88 minutes.

Congleton are eighth in the league, and are at home to Wednesfield tomorrow in the preliminary round of the FA Cup.

They travel to Vauxhall next Tuesday evening, subject to the FA Cup results.
