ANGRY residents are calling for action to cut the speeds of cars and trucks which are making their lives a misery.

Carole Smith is one of a series of neighbours from Lawton Road, Alsager, who are demanding measures to slow traffic down.

They claim cars regularly break the speed limit as they race out of town, and are kept awake at night by the noise from trucks.

The residents raised their concerns with borough highway officers, and the road is due to be considered for possible traffic calming measures.

Work is also due to take place in the near future to put a new surface on the road, which has been patched numerous times by the utility companies.

"We are worried about the speed of the traffic, which regularly do 50 miles an hour out of Alsager on what is a 30 miles an hour road," said Mrs Smith.

"It's very dangerous because of the speeding cars, which also make it difficult and dangerous getting cars out of our drives.

"We also have sleepless nights every evening because of the noise from trucks going over the bumps in the road.

"I have lived in Lawton Road since 1990, and the problems have got worse over the last couple of years.

"All we are asking for is a safer, slower, quiet road, where we can get to sleep at night."
