TOP teenagers Sophie Boldon and Amy Eyers helped their school to score record GCSE results this summer.

Sophie gained 10 A star grades and Amy gained nine as Alsager School pupils achieved a string of outstanding results.

The marks saw the school break the 80 per cent barrier for the first time, with 81.2 per cent of students gaining five or more C grades or above.

The achievement was made more remarkable in that it represented an 11.6 per cent jump on the 69.6 per cent scored in 1999.

Sophie and Amy were the top achievers, although dozens of pupils enjoyed great success, with 25 gaining eight or more A grades.

"We have always had very high expectations of this year group, and it's wonderful to see their outstanding talents recognised in these impressive results," said acting head Philip Clarke.

At Dane Valley High in Congleton 71.4 per cent achieved five A star to C grades.

Notable performances came from Craig Bennett and Holly Sherwood with seven A stars, and Stephanie Griffiths and Laura Campbell with six and five A stars respectively.

Westlands High in Congleton scored one of its best ever series of results, with 73 per cent gaining five passes at grade C and above, the second year running it has scored above 70 per cent.
