IT was an up and down Bank Holiday weekend for Nantwich Town with plenty of promise.

The Dabbers made an amazing start by producing the upset of the day in North West Counties football with a 2-1 victory at promotion favourites Rossendale United on Saturday.

Some great defending kept it goalless at the interval and as confidence grew Nantwich went on to take the lead on 70 minutes through Dave Melling.

The home side levelled ten minutes later but the Dabbers were not to be denied and John Dawson restored the advantage five minutes from time.

On Monday the Dabbers entertained Woodley Sports and without four first-teamers, including promising 16-year old midfielder Michael Sutton, it was always going to be difficult.

Mark Chandler netted to give them a good start after 20 minutes but the visitors fought back to level before the break and a second-half strike secured Woodley all three points.

Manager Dave Cooke was upbeat. "I think we certainly deserved a draw out of that game.

"But it's been a half-decent start to the season and that was a great result at the favourites Rossendale.

"If we had got something on Monday it would have put us right up there but I'm really pleased with the way it's going."

Nantwich travel to Hinckley in the FA Cup on Saturday and then entertain St Helens in the league on Tuesday night.
