ARMED robbers made off with £4,000 in cash after a heist on village stores in Bunbury.

Staff were terrified as they were confronted by two balaclava clad robbers, both waving guns.

Police are appealing for any information regarding the incident on Bank Holiday Monday evening.

The two raiders forced their way into the store on Bunbury Lane, which also houses the village post office, at around 9.10pm.

Both men were in possession of firearms and were wearing dark clothing with full face balaclavas.

The first robber has been described as a white man around six feet tall with proportionate build and thick set.

The second is also of similar description, a white male at around five foot 10 inches tall of proportionate build although looked younger than the first man.

After stealing the cash, both ran off out of the building and headed towards the A49 in what has been dx+ehicle was driven by a third person.

"During the incident the firearms were not discharged and no-one was injured," said a police spokesperson.

United Norwest Co-op PR Manager David Short said: "The incident occurred at around 9pm just as the store had closed. The door had been locked and was smashed in.

"There were two members of staff on duty and they are obviously shaken by it all. Around £4,000 in cash was stolen.

"We are currently reviewing security as a result of this incident."

Investigations are being carried out by Crewe CID.
