STUDENTS of all ages were celebrating success in their GCSEs at Mid Cheshire College.

This year the overall percentage of students gaining A to C grades has increased and a significant number of A and A* grades were achieved.

There were some very good subject results including GCSE Spanish which had an A to C pass rate of 86 per cent, with four students gaining A* and two A grades.

English had three A* and three A grades and Psychology had one student achieving grade A and three with grade B. Integrated Science results are also significantly higher than the national average.

Principal John Howard said: "We are now begining to see the results of the national campaign Lifelong Learning, with more people choosing to improve their grades or attempt qualifications they wished they had gained years ago.

"Whether you left school recently or are returning to learning after some time, the college is structured to offer you the support you need to achieve success."

Women came out tops at languages with a mature group celebrating their A and A* grades.

Assistant Cook at the college, Sally Birtwistle, achieved A* in English.

Martin Lindop, 31, from Greenbank, returned to college full-time after working at Morrison's Distribution Centre, in Rudheath. He gained a GCSE grade B in English, C in Maths, C/C in Science and hopes to take A levels to become a physiotherapist.
