NEW-LOOK uniforms issued by Marks and Spencer are being altered after complaints from Warrington staff.

Cream blouses - issued with a blue pinstriped skirt suit - seemed to be taking the store's new image a bit too far when female members of staff were forced to wear an extra layer underneath or keep their jackets on because the material is see-through.

Warrington is one of the first stores in the country to be issued with the new uniform. Complaints were made to managers and fed back to head office.

At Sankey Street's M&S store this week, an alternative T-shirt-style top seems to have been favoured by most of the assistants, rather than the thinner blouse.

Nobody at the store had been allowed to comment about the issue to the GUARDIAN as the paper went to press, but a spokesman for the store's press office confirmed that complaints had come from Warrington and that designers were having a rethink.

"Staff at Warrington did have their concerns that the blouses were see-through," he said.

"We are working to trial an alternative blouse of thicker material."

It is hoped that the replacement blouses will be available by the end of next month.
