OVER Peover moved back into contention for promotion with a 79-run victory at Alderley Park on Saturday.

Put in to bat on a good wicket on a steamy overcast afternoon, Peover reached 50 before losing Kirby Whittaker for 10.

John Bodimeade joined Ben Nightingale and the pair put on a record 155 for the second wicket before Bodimeade was bowled for 65.

Ben Nightingale was unbeaten with 115, an excellent knock, containing 1 six and 18 fours, as Peover declared at 205 for 2 after 35 overs.

Set to score 206 to win in 55 overs, Alderley Park were never up with the rate, as the Peover attack took wickets steadily.

Martin James made 29, Dave Jones a quick-fire 33 to secure extra batting points and opener Mike Harrison defended for 32 overs for nine runs.

The Peover bowlers triumphed finally with seven overs to spare moments before a thunderstorm engulfed the ground.

Neil Mills again led the attack, taking 4 for 26, ably supported by Danny Ruddock with 2 for 22 and Mark Nightingale 3 for 27.

On Saturday Peover visit Chester County Officers for their last away game of the season.
