OVER PEOVER58

Burnage183 for 9

IN A top of the table clash last Saturday,

OVER Peovers promotion prospects suffered a setback in Saturdays top-of-the-table clash, losing by 125 runs to visitors Burnage.

Choosing to bowl, Peover started well and had the visitors struggling at 98 for 7 after 35 overs.

However, Peover relaxed their grip and the lower order, led by Abdul Malik with 44, added another 95 runs off the last 13 overs to set a stiff task with 183 for 9 on the board after 48 overs.

For Peover, Neil Mills turned in his seventh five-wicket haul of the season, with 5 for 52 off 20 overs.

Ben Nightingale took 2 for 57, Danny Ruddock 0 for 42 and Mark Nightingale 1 for 18.

Facing the visitors pace attack, the Peover early order never got on terms with the speed of Abdul Monayen and Saquib Hussain who reduced the hosts to 44 for 7.

Only Eddie Bones reached double figures with 14, despite a crushed toe.

Danny Ruddock blocked out for 21 overs and with Mark Nightingale, who defended for 18 overs in a tense rearguard action, took Peover within sight of a draw.

However the innings closed on 58 all out, with six overs still to go.

Monayer took 5 for 29 to add to his 5 for 20 against Peover earlier in the season and Hussain took 3 for 12, Mansoor Malik 0 for 2 and Richard Marsh 2 for 5.

Burnage moved into the top spot following their win and Peover are in fifth place, hoping for better fortune at Alderley Park on Saturday.
