Wigan Warriors 25

Warrington Wolves 14

TERRITORIALLY the game was even but Warrington Academy were not quite good enough to claim the points.

For the first quarter Wigan never entered Warrington's half of the field but Wigan's defence was magnificent and on 21 and 29 minutes they were rewarded with tries.

Warrington hit back with two superb tries from Andy Barr and David Alstead.

After the break Wigan increased their lead to 20-8 but on 67 mins substitute Paul Alcock powered over and Kris Tickle converted to make the score 20-14.

It looked as if Warrington could go on to win but a 76th minute Wigan drop goal and an unconverted try gave the home team a seven-points cushion.

Team: David Alstead, Chris Gordon, Andy Barr, Steve Maden, David Nunnerley, Rob Gallagher, Kris Tickle, David Hughes, John Whalley, Paul Wood, Mike Callan, Tom KIlgannon, David Fernley. Subs: Andy Gornick, Ben Smith, Paul Alcock, Stuart Naylor.
