FINAL OVER & OUT

IN A thrilling game of cricket, Weston CC were narrowly beaten by championship chasing Silverdale.

Put into bat on a damp and grassy track, Weston made progress largely thanks to opener Ian Allcock (29).

At the halfway stage things were evenly poised at 74-4 until professional Gareth Lello (87) and Simon Steele (51no) put on a determined fifth wicket stand of 106, lifting Weston to an eventual total of 204-5 off 55 overs.

Weston's attack soon had Silverdale in trouble at 65-5, but a stunning and virtually chanceless knock of 134no by pro, Bannerjee single handedly kept Silverdale in the hunt through the final 20 overs.

A nail biting final over saw Silverdale claim victory and a vital 20 points with just two balls and two wickets to spare.

Gareth Lello (3-48) and Brian Gessner (3-54) were the pick of the bowlers in a fine all-round effort, with Weston picking up nine points for their efforts.

IN WESTON'S second 11 match the hosts compiled an impressive total of 194-9 from their 55 overs.

Andy Witter (46), Malc Edge (44) and David Keane (25no) formed the backbone of the Weston innings.

The total proved too much for Silverdale, who were restricted by some good bowling, to chase with the visitors settling for 102-6.

Ian Sandland (3-35) was the pick of the Weston bowlers and the team picked up nine points.
