TRANSPORT police are investigating the death of a man who was found naked on the train line near Hartford Railway Station.

The 31-year-old man's body was discovered lying between the two north and southbound tracks, 200 yards from the station, at about 3am, on Thursday, August 31.

A police spokesman said: "It is believed the man might have been a passenger on the Euston to Glasgow express train which passed through Hartford.

"We have been able to identify him and trace his family, but there are no suspicious circumstances or any reason to suspect another party was involved."

The driver of a passing train first spotted the body and Transport Police were called to the station, near Northwich, at about 3.20am.

Later that morning officers carried out a daylight search to look for clues which may lead to the cause of death.

A police spokesman confirmed the man was not from the Northwich area.

A Railtrack spokesman said: "The incident delayed 94 trains along the west coast main line."
