ALDERLEY Edge have clinched the Cheshire County League Division One title, and Oulton Park need a big favour from them this weekend as the race for the second ECB Premier promotion spot hots up.
The champions take on Bramhall, who Park lead by just three points in second place, in what could be the crunch game of the season.
However, if Oulton can overcome Heaton Mersey and gain their 11th win of the season, they will go into next week's final matches as favourites to go up.
Their 10th win was achieved with relative ease against Urmston at Little Budworth on Saturday, a fantastic 89 not out by Greg Dimery leading the way in a six-wicket win.
The Australian dug Park out of a hole when they were reduced to 9-2, while Urmston looked ready to dominate the day as they reached 126-2 at one stage.
However, Andy McIlroy came on to take 4-49 as the visitors eventually closed on 159-8.
Steve Yates went for one, and Paul Berry a duck as Park mad a shaky start, but Steve Davies, Steve Dublin and Roger Thompson, offered Dimery the support he needed to take the promotion chasers to 161-4.
A day later, Oulton Park's cup dreams were dashed by Nantwich, who went into the County League Cup final in front of Little Budworth's biggest crowd of the season.
John Davies (3-46) and Dimery (2-38) starred as the Premier side made 182-7 in their innings, and Park looked well set to run them close when they made 41-1.
However, Cheshire opening bowler Phil Cottertill came on to take three wickets for 10 runs and reduce McIlroy's men to 100 all out. The captain himself top scored with 27.
Oulton Park 2nds needed six off the last over to best Nantwich 2nds on Saturday, but their last man was run out, leaving them all out on 196, five runs short of the winning target.
