MAD (Middlewich Against Dumping) campaigners have taken their arguments to the people of Holmes Chapel who, they say, will also be affected.

The group is battling against proposals for a 70 acre landfill site at Kinderton Lodge which would store domestic and industrial waste.

There is a second action group in Sproston, and both have been set up to fight the proposals amidst fears of traffic congestion, vermin infestation, risk of pollution, and effect on the economy.

Now they are recruiting Holmes Chapel residents who may not know they could be affected.

MAD's Maria McGlade said: "We want Holmes Chapel residents to join the fight. Many of them don't realise that they are well within the five kilometre danger zone and will be affected by all the problems including the health risks."

Members of the MAD group were in Holmes Chapel last week to inform people about the plans and their concerns. They are are holding a meeting at the leisure centre tonight, Wednesday at 7.30pm.

"Cheshire County Council's planning officer Adrian Lea will be at the meeting," said Mrs McGlade.

"Though it may seem MAD has been quiet for a while, we have been constantly meeting and planning. Still waters run deep.

"Even though Holmes Chapel residents will not see the dump, the insidious results will affect them. This meeting is to let them know everything."
