WHARTON Cons fell just four shots short of Slow & Easy A in a thrilling Whitby Cup final on Friday night.

Although Wharton made a great start at Pochin's Club, Middlewich, and had the five biggest victories on the night, they were unable to pull back the 75 handicap.

Glynn Cookson got the game under way with a 21-9 win over Norman Hardy, Peter Kelly repeated the score against Andy Woddyatt, while Barry Cookson best Dennis Aldred 21-4.

However, Slow's middle four got them back into the game, the highlight being Eileen Bostock's 21-17 victory over Ivan Wilkinson.

The clinching points came from Pete Illidge, whose 21-13 margin over Mark Cookson left Alan Vickers with too much to do in the final match, as Slow & Easy won 243-239.

Putting club rivalry aside, Mid-Cheshire's juniors and seniors have teamed up to retain their Inter League Trophies for the third year running, after the seniors overcame a strong Stockport League team, the juniors a Norley League side.

And Mid-Cheshire Juniors have also won the British Parks National Knock-Out Trophy again, overcoming Warwickshire, North Yorkshire, North Lancs & Fylde and South Yorkshire 193-185 in the final.

Man of the match for Mid-Cheshire was Paul Wilkinson of Beech Tree.

The juniors are also trying to retain the British Parks National County Cup, playing in the final at Comberbach on Sunday, September 17, 2pm start.
