DAVID Needham has arrowed his way into the top 50 archers in the country.

The Winnington Park Bowmen member recently recorded a double success in the Cheshire County Championship at Warrington.

He won both the Fita Round with 1222 points and York Round (1092), both out of a possible total of 1295.

By becoming county champion, David secured his Master Bowman status, giving him his prestigious place in the nation's top 50.

David's victory helped keep up a winning tradition for Winnington Park Bowmen since their formation in 1956, taking both the Cheshire Club Championship and individual championships 1963-1966. Two members of the 1966 team, Peter and Vera Whittaker, are still active members of the club.

In 1969 and 1973 Paul Taylor, then a teacher Weaverham High School, was selected to shoot for Great Britain in the World Championships.

A recruitment drive is being held for anyone interested in archery and joining Winnington Park Bowmen at their base at the Recreation Club.

This invitation particularly extends to juniors aged 11 to 18.

The club runs two beginners' courses a year in June and October at a cost of £25 per head. The October course still has a few vacancies left.

Anyone interested should contact club secretary Jerry Nicholson on (01606) 851376.
