A YOUTH group which celebrates its 20th anniversary this month fears it could face closure due to a lack of supervisory staff.

Woolston Youth Group, part of the Church of the Ascension, will celebrate its birthday on September 20, but leader Bob Milkins fears it could be its last if volunteers cannot be found to supervise meetings.

The club which meets every Monday during term time from 7.30pm to 9.30pm is currently struggling with 30 members and only one dedicated youth club leader.

"According to club rules we need one leader per 10 children, which leaves us in an awkward position if more children turn up and we have to turn them away when their parents have dropped them off on dark nights," said Mr Milkins, who has seen a gradual decline since the club began in 1980.

He added: "We currently have two part time supervisors but they are predominantly scout leaders and, whilst their help is invaluable, the club cannot continue without more supervisors."

The next club meeting, held at the Mission Community Centre opposite the church on Warren Lane, will be on Monday, September 11. Anyone willing to help is asked to come along at 7.30pm.
