WARRINGTON slumped to a third home defeat on Tuesday with the season less than three weeks old.

Failure against Padiham extended a dismal home run stretching back to November, which has seen them win only four times.

Town created but spurned numerous scoring opportunities, allowing the newly promoted side to plunder the points.

Warrington took control of the game early on and after Andy Barr, in a good position, allowed keeper Darren Mitcheson to block his goalbound shot, Dave Tickle put them in front after 26 minutes, firing in from eight yards.

Ged Bushell was unfortunate when he struck a long-range effort inches over, before Tickle was denied a second goal after hammering an attempt against the bar.

But Warrington keeper Neil McCormack was powerless to prevent Padiham snatching an equaliser a minute before the interval after being chipped by Lee Chambers from 15 yards.

The visitors, down to 10 men following the sending off of defender Jamie Edmondson, added further misery for Town when Chambers was again on target with five minutes remaining.

Warrington face Nelson at home in the league on Saturday, with Blackpool Mechanics then visiting Cantilever Park on Tuesday.
