WARRINGTON Anglers' Association waters continue to give consistent sport with many good bags of fish being taken.

River reports are non-existent therefore I cannot give you any information on the places to go. So river anglers please send in your reports and share the information with other members.

The Bridgewater Canal is fishing well for pleasure anglers with good catches of bream and roach being caught.

People say to me where have all the roach gone in the canal. Believe me, they are still there and making a comeback!

I managed to wet line pleasure fishing on the canal last week at Preston Brook and inside two hours caught over 8lbs of prime red fins all taken on caster.

Astle pool is fishing well with roach being the predominant species along with the odd large carp.

A common carp of 19lbs-4oz was tempted from the margins of the big lake at Sandiway this week an numerous reports have been received of good nets of bream, tench and roach being taken from the small lake. It is a case of feeding quite heavy and waiting for the fish to arrive but when they do, sport is non-stop.

The final subscription reminders have been sent out and may be paid at any local tackle shop or at headquarters. Just to remind any lapsed members out there that if they have been a member in the last 10 years then no joining fee is required. Also, if you were a junior last year and you have been automatically sent a senior card then the subscription is only £12 as a new category of intermediate has been introduced.

On the match scene our teams have had great success with the junior team taking first place and the intermediate team taking second place in the NJA Championships held on the Bridgewater Canal on Saturday.

The senior match squad have taken over the top of the Drennan Division One League with one match remaining. Good luck to them in the final match.

Not forgetting the game fishing side, two of our members have volunteered their services and expertise to give tuition in the art of fly fishing to any member who is thinking of trying their hand at the game. The sessions will take place on Appleton Reservoir and information of the coaching may be obtained from the headquarters.

The Warrington Shield competition takes place this Saturday on the Bridgewater Canal and anyone wishing to take part must contact Chris Grehan on 635373 before Friday night to book in. The match will only take place if there are sufficient people booked in.
