WINSFORD Swimming Club sent three swimmers in at the deep end on Saturday, at the Stockport Metro Designated Open Meet.

Many National Age Group champions were competing in teams from as far afield as Jersey, Portsmouth and Glasgow travelled for this prestigious event. The meet was run under the new BAGCATS (British Age Group Categories) points system, which encourages swimmers to swim a variety of strokes over a range of distances.

Stephanie Buckley and Abigail and Lucie Tetley all took to the water, Lucie in every category of the BAGCATS, and all three achieved personal best times in the fast Stockport pool.

Individual achievements were as follows:

Lucie Tetley (11):

Swam 50m breaststroke in a time which was just 0.6 seconds off a National Age Group Qualifying Time for 2001.

Set 4 new club records - 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and 400m freestyle.

Swam in the final of 50m and 100m breaststroke gaining 2 medals

Came in the top 10 in the 200m breaststroke, 200m individual medley and 400m front crawl, which were all heat declared winners.

Received an overall BAGCATS Award for her success.

Breaststroke specialist Eddie Anderson, has worked intensively with Lucie on her breaststroke technique since she joined the club in September and is delighted at her rapid progress.

Abigail Tetley (13):

Swam 50m Freestyle in a time which was 0.4 seconds off a National Age Group Qualifying Time for 2001.

Swam in the final of 50m freestyle gaining a medal.

Set a new club record in 50m freestyle.

Gained personal best times in 50m freestyle, 200m Individual Medley and 100m butterfly.

Stephanie Buckley (11):

Set personal best times in 50m and 100m breaststroke - losing 6 seconds in all!

Swam in the final of the 100m breaststroke and was reserve finalist in the 50m.
