FORMER Northwich Guardian Editor Mark Bevan has written a book about the history of Cuddington and Sandiway.

Cuddington and Sandiway 2000, which is published by Cheshire Country Publishing, goes on sale this week and is available from the village's three newsagents for £15.

Mr Bevan grew up in Cuddington and Sandiway and his mother's side of the family have lived in and around the village for at least 300 years.

His book, which marks the millennium, covers the period from 1750 to 2000 and includes the Round Tower and many other famous buildings which have stood the test of time.

Superbly reproduced photographs capture the village as it was, with many instantly recognisable images.

Mark said: "I had a large collection of photographs and information collected over the years and the millennium gave me the opportunity to pull it all together.

"The book is more a reflection of the lives and times of the people in Cuddington and Sandiway.

"I have tried to show how the village developed from a smattering of cottages to a wider sprawl of housing, but it has still kept its village traditions and I will always regard it as my home."

The book gives an insight into the village's bygone days, from the Wilbrahams of Delamere House to the Thompson salt family, and the Second World War when up to 30,000 American troops converged on the village.

Some of the village's famous names are also highlighted including architect John Douglas, TV presenter Chris Kelly, actor Adam Rickitt and pop-singer, song-writer Gary Barlow.
