Aldwinians...17
Lymm RFC...6
HAVING lost only twice so far this season and pushing for top spot Aldwinians proved too tough an opposition for Lymm in this League fixture.
Undaunted by Aldwinians' reputation Lymm took the game to the home side.
Danny Naylor gave Lymm the lead with a penalty but on the stroke of half-time Aldwinians put together the first piece of attacking running rugby to register a try between the posts by M. Doherty, converted by Jackson.
Lymm had plenty of possession in the second half with Sion Williams dominating the lineouts. An abundance of possession was wasted with very little quality ball reaching the Lymm outside half and the few opportunities that came to the Lymm centres was mishandled by over elaboration and lack of conviction.
Aldwinians's vastly experienced pack soaked up all that Lymm threw at them before very late in the game ex-Fylde and Wakefield player coach Mike Jackson stamped his authority all over the game with his touch line kicking to negate a penalty by D. Naylor.
In the final five minutes when Lymm had run out of ideas Aldwinians again produced a rare piece of attractive open rugby to score a late try. Jackson converted and added penalty.
Lymm will need to produce more flair and conviction in the next game on Saturday against Redcar, led by ex-Great Britain Rugby league star Garry Schofield, in the next round of the Intermediate Cup.
Aldwinians 2nd...12
Lymm 2nd...6
TWO penalties by Paul Thatcher saw Lymm leading 6-5 with minutes to go only to concede a try in injury time.
Aldwinians 3rd...10
Lymm 3rd...27
WINGER Addi raced over for a brace of tries followed by Ben Bray, Dave Smithson and Jim France. Chris Horne converted one.
Back row Charlie Osborne was man of the match in a game where the Lymm backs dominated.
