ROVERS travelled to Humberside and a superb performance saw them claim a victory that sees them return to the top of the National Conference League Premier Division.
In muddy conditions with chances at a premium, Rovers stuck to their task brilliantly and an awesome defence ensured that the home side were never able to breach the line.
Rovers took the lead two minutes before the break when hooker Phil Dermott chipped through and then won the race to touchdown between the posts. Scrum half Steve Martin added the conversion to give a half-time scoreline of 6-0.
In an equally tense second half Rovers snuffed out any Ideal chances.
Rovers made the game safe 12 minutes from time when Dermott went down the blind side and sent winger Mark Cosgrove on a 50-metre touchline run. He was held 10 metres short, but a quick play-the-ball saw second row Dave Patterson come steaming through to score.
Man of the match was Shaun Geritas. He was well supported by Dermott and substitute Povey.
Rovers: Mark Wallington; Mark Cosgrove, Nigel Quarmby, Darren Geritas, Paul Fiddler; Graham Smith, Steve Martin; Mark Shephard, Phil Dermott, Mark Pendleton, Shaun Geritas, Dave Patterson, Daniel Heaton. Subs: Chris Clark, Graham Muckalt, Drew Povey, Matt Patterson.
On Saturday, Rovers are at home to Walney Central in the National Conference League Premier Division. Kick-off is 2.30pm at Bennett's Rec, Padgate.
