FUNDRAISING fever hit Golden Square on Thursday night when companies from all over Warrington pledged to support St Rocco's Hospice.
Mayor Sheila Woodyatt was on hand for the official launch of Charity Challenge 2001, where representatives from the town's biggest companies collected a gold envelope containing their chosen challenge.
The initiative is designed to encourage the business community to help raise money for St Rocco's by accepting a sponsorship event or challenge.
Companies announced their fundraising challenge for next year after each challenge and target amount was agreed with the hospice.
More than 25 individuals agreed to a whole range of pledges including a three peaks race and a sponsored cycle from Lands End to John O Groats. Even hospice staff are planning their own special challenge.
Golden Square shopping centre manager Andrew Ward will be putting forward his team's challenge for a human table football match next year.
Claire Mannock, fundraising manager at the hospice, said: "It was a great event and we had a lot of fun. The Mayor sat in Santa's throne and handed out the challenges. Everyone's been so pleased to get involved. Warrington Borough Council are having a dress down day and so are BNFL, who have agreed to match whatever amount their staff raise.
"All in all we hope to raise around £50,000 for the hospice."
