Guardian proves to be a launchpad to international media frenzy

THE Guardian has proved to be a launchpad to international fame for two-year-old Harry Fairweather.

The toddler, who sets off security alarms whenever he visits a shop, has become the centre of a media frenzy, after we told his story two weeks ago.

Harry has appeared in the national press, on three radio programmes, is lined up for Channel 4's Big Breakfast - and now international media are queuing up to hear all about his story.

Mum Paula said: "It's been lots of fun, but absolutely hectic.

"Last Friday I had to take the phone off the hook because it just never stopped ringing."

Various magazines have been in touch as well as Radio New Zealand and a German television show based in Berlin called Sat 1, all wanting a chat with Harry. And last week he took a starring role on Granada Tonight.

"We were a bit worried about Harry's welfare especially with all the attention, but he loves it and really enjoyed seeing himself on TV," said Paula.

The interest is based around Harry's mysterious 'talent' for triggering security alarms whenever he goes into a shop.

The family, from Winsford, have been back to medical staff once again to see if there is any explanation for the phenomena.

Paula said: "We went to a different doctor this time, but were told we're wasting our time.

"They are all as flabbergasted as we are.

"Harry is perfectly well so we will keep enjoying our 15 minutes of fame thanks to the Guardian."
